Have you ever harvested your own Christmas tree? Doing so is incredibly rewarding and will create a treasured memory that you and your family will never forget. This year, you can do exactly that at State Forest State Park in north-central Colorado. On December 2nd and 3rd, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and for just $5, you can head into the semi-wilderness, choose a tree, chop it down, and take it home with you. In fact, you can take up to five trees with you if you choose! Read on to learn more about this exciting adventure and start sharpening your saw.
State Forest State Park is Colorado's largest state park at 70,838 acres. It was established in 1970. I love camping there whenever I can - although I have to admit I've never been up there in the winter.
Still, this state park is absolutely gorgeous in any season. When it's snow-covered, it's surely an incredible sight to see.
52,000 of the park's acres are forested in lodgepole pine, Douglas fir, Colorado blue spruce, and aspen.
It truly showcases the immense beauty of our great state.
Now, you can get your hands on one of the park's beautiful trees and take it home to live with you this holiday season as your Christmas tree.
On December 2nd and 3rd of this year, State Forest State Park is offering permits for cutting down trees. Permits are just $5 and you can harvest up to five park trees with one permit.
You'll have to bring your own saw, of course. A handsaw will work, but it'd probably be wiser to bring a small chainsaw - if you don't want to be out there for hours.
Once you claim and chop a tree, you'll have to drag it to your car yourself.
And, you'll have to bring twine to tie it to your roof to take it home.
This fun activity is sure to be very rewarding. It's something that you'll remember for years to come - and your kids will love it, too.
Just imagine how beautiful your tree will look, adorned with ornaments and decorations in your living room while you celebrate the holiday season around it with the ones you love.
Cutting down your own Christmas tree is something that everyone should try at least once. You'll love choosing the tree, taking it down, bringing it home, and decorating it. Stop by the Moose Visitor Center in State Forest State Park on December 2nd or 3rd between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to get your permit and go get your tree. It's cash or check only, so come prepared. They'll tell you where you can go to find your perfect tree. What a celebration! Merry Christmas, everyone!
