The Natural Phenomenon In Buffalo That Only Happens During Wintertime
Snow rollers are a rare winter phenomenon in Buffalo formed by wind blowing snow across open spaces.
It ain't over 'till it's over, and Mother Nature has apparently decided she's not done with winter weather quite yet. (It's fine - not like it's April or anything.) While we're on the topic of the white stuff, here's an interesting bit of information: there's a natural phenomenon in Buffalo that only happens during wintertime. They're called "snow rollers" and they're fascinating. Read on to learn more about it and be sure to watch the video of the snow formations in action at the end of this article!
"Snow Rollers" are a rare natural phenomenon in Buffalo that only happens during wintertime.
These snow formations form in other parts of the country as well, but we're one of the few lucky spots to see them.
Snow rollers are formed when a strong wind blows snow across an open space.
The snow mixture on the ground has to have exactly the right consistency and layers in order for these nature-made snowballs to form.
These have been spotted in different areas of Western New York just this past winter.
And it seems that Mother Nature isn't quite finished dumping the white stuff on us yet. So who knows – snow rollers might make another appearance before winter weather leaves us for the season.
These snow formations are truly fascinating.
As they put it in the video by Eric Homan Video Productions below, snow rollers look "like Swiss cake rolls baked from snow and ice."
Take a look at the full video by Eric Homan Video Productions to see footage of snow rollers taken in nearby Ohio.

Have you ever seen these snow rollers before? If you've spotted them near you in Western New York, we're dying to see photos! Share them with us in the comments below or by tagging us on Instagram @onlyinbuffalo using #onlyinbflo.
