A Trip To This Charming, Working Mill In Arkansas Is Unforgettable

It’s almost March 1^st! That may not mean much to you unless your birthday is in March, like mine is (she hinted), but I’ve got great news! March means a lot of places that closed for the season in the cooler months will be open again. One of those spectacular places is the War Eagle Mill, which will open up its doors to the public on that first day of March. War Eagle Mill is the only working gristmill in the Natural State. In addition to making a number of products, it also hosts a huge craft fair, has a charming restaurant, and is just absolutely beautiful. Plan your trip soon, y’all, because this place is super cool.

War Eagle Mill is located at 11045 War Eagle Road in Rogers.

The history of War Eagle Mill is both long and impressive.

The building you’ll see today is actually the mill’s fourth incarnation since its first building in 1832. Nature and war have destroyed the mill completely three times, but every time it has been rebuilt.

Other than its stunning appearance and rich history, probably the coolest thing about War Eagle Mill is that they actually make flour and cornmeal there. It really is the only working mill in Arkansas.

That charming wheel you see outside? It actually turns.

The creek that runs beside the mill is called War Eagle Creek.

The cascades on War Eagle Creek are gorgeous.

The top floor of the mill is a restaurant called Bean Palace . . .

. . . and Bean Palace actually uses products made in the mill as ingredients for their totally scrumptious food.

War Eagle hosts a massive, extremely popular craft fair every fall. In 2017, the War Eagle Mill Fall Craft Fair will be held from October 19th until the 22nd.
