Bluffton Preserve in Clinton Is Arkansas’s Most Stunning Hidden Nature Park—and It’s Free
Cross bridges, chase waterfalls, and take in the treetops at this stunning park.
We first introduced you to the Bluffton Preserve on the Archey Fork in Clinton because it has an incredible swimming hole. But did you know that the hidden nature park has not one, not two, but five (yes, five!) hiking trails, which makes it a great destination for a day hike in Arkansas?
Whether you want to chase waterfalls or witness cool rock formations, water views, or lush greenery, there is a trail inside the nature sanctuary for you. There is even a bike trail for folks who enjoy mountain biking. So, you can easily see why it’s a great spot for daytime adventure. Before you leave for this trek, make sure you have a map downloaded so you'll have offline access to directions.
Welcome to the Bluffton Preserve, a beautiful 990-acre nature park just a few minutes from Clinton, Arkansas. With about 10 miles of nature trails, this hidden park in the Ozark foothills is great for a day hike. The network of trails includes the Azalea Hollow Trail, the Prickly Pear Trail, the Bluffline East Trail, the Double Drop Falls, and the Stoneroller Trail, all with their own unique adventure.
So, if you're a nature lover, boy, you're in for a treat! No matter what kind of terrain you enjoy, you'll find it on one of the trails. For instance, if you love mountain biking or hiking along high cliffs among lush forestry, then check out the 2.2-mile Stoneroller Trail. You'll also have stunning water views as this trail loops around the Archey Fork Little Red River.
Do you enjoy overlooks, scenic vistas, pretty little wildflowers, and wildlife? Then the 1.5-mile Azalea Hollow Trail is for you. This trail takes you along the bluff line, which reveals the prettiest views of the river as well as views of the rolling hills of the Ozarks. Love footbridges? You'll find them here as well.
How about chasing waterfalls…you'll have that, too! Of course, swimming holes are abundant, so you'll have a lot of places to cool off and stop to bask in all the natural beauty. Bring the dogs and kids along to enjoy this hiking adventure. The trails have something for everyone.
To be honest, you'll probably need more than a day to explore all five trails, so I suggest packing your camping gear and turning your day hike into an overnight adventure. The first come first serve campsites are primitive, but when you're immersed in so much nature, all your worries will slip away.
Are you ready for your day hike in Arkansas at the Bluffton Preserve? It's really a pretty little sanctuary and great for the entire family. Some of the best hikes in Arkansas can be found at this expansive natural area. Visit the preserve any time of year, but prepare for rain and slippery mud if you come during the rainy season or winter. Arrive early to secure a parking spot, get your gear in order, and head out to the trails!
If you live far away from this natural Arkansas destination, consider taking a road trip across the state to visit. Along the way, you can stop by other parks like the Natural Bridge of Arkansas, the South Fork Nature Center, or the Archey Fork Park and Riverwalk.
