The Stunning Top-Secret Hot Springs in Arizona Nobody’s Ever Heard of

Deep in the wilderness of Yavapai County near Black Canyon City is the Sheep Bridge Hot Spring that is reachable via a hike or a 4x4 vehicle.

Deep in the Tonto National Forest of Yavapai County near Black Canyon City is a natural hot spring that not many people seem to know about. Reaching them will require a long hike, which one must prepare for, or a ride in a 4x4 vehicle across rough and rugged terrain. So, are you up for an adventure with a dip in a hot spring as a payoff for your efforts? Well, let's discover the stunning top-secret hot spring in Arizona known as Sheep Bridge Hot Springs.

Across the Verde River near Black Canyon City, a town just 47 miles to the north of Phoenix and 45 miles north of Carefree, lies the Sheep Bridge. This beautifully constructed suspension bridge allows visitors to easily cross the Verde River with panoramic views all around.

Getting to the hot springs will require a hike or a drive in a high-clearance or 4x4 vehicle as the trail is rocky and rugged with portions that are not well-maintained. Sheep Bridge Hot Spring Trail via FR 269 is what you'll take. This is a 16.7-mile point-to-point trail rated as moderate on AllTrails.

On the west side of the Sheep Bridge, you may stumble upon a secret hot spring. Known as Sheep Bridge Hot Spring, you'll find it tucked behind some vegetation along the river. If you're lucky enough to find it, feel free to go for a dip! Fair warning — the hot spring tub is fairly small, only able to fit up to three people. However, the water is clear, around 100 degrees, and is a beautiful place to relax. You'll also love the secluded feel with rocks lining the edge of the hot spring tub.

In addition to the hot spring, you can always continue with your hike or drive, take a dip in the river (there's even a rope swing you can use for some extra fun!), or go camping. Dispersed camping is allowed for up to 14 days in the area. You can have quite the adventure here!
