Hidden gems in Arizona aren't exactly uncommon, but this one just might be the least-known of all. Tucked away in a remote area, this secret Lake Powell swimming hole is guaranteed to make your summer epic. Check it out and see why it's one of the best places to go swimming in Arizona:
Judging by this picture alone, you'd think we're here to talk about an ordinary, run-of-the-mill body of water. Striking blue rivers and pristine lakes can be found all across the state, but secret swimming holes aren't something you come across very often.
This hidden spot is one of Arizona's best-kept secrets.
Hiding in a remote area of Lake Powell, this otherworldly swimming hole is known as the "Toilet Bowl." As its name suggests, the pool has a magical whirlpool-like current akin to Greek Mythology.
Few people are even aware such a unique natural wonder exists.
Water levels must be just right in order to access the swimming hole. Too high and it merges with the surrounding lake; too low and you'd need a rope to climb back out.
The toilet bowl's hit-or-miss quality makes it even more special, as opportunities to visit are incredibly rare.
You'll find the bowl just across the Arizona/Utah border, at the GPS coordinates 37.0740541,-111.3137875. Be sure to bring a boat or other watercraft, as tours don't go there.
Stop at the marina before heading out to ask whether conditions are favorable. If not, there's still plenty of fun to be had elsewhere on Lake Powell!
