The location we’re looking at today can be found within the Superstition Wilderness, just outside Gold Canyon and hidden away at the end of a residential street.
Hieroglyphic Trail is a fairly easy hike just under three miles with a steady incline and little to no shade. The trek will take you into the desert and is perfect in late fall or early spring.
And, while the landscape here is certainly pretty, that’s not the only reason to hit this trail.
The main draw here are a series of petroglyphs at the end of the hike right up against the mountain.
The petroglyphs feature intricate images and designs etched into the boulders centuries ago, including animals and abstract designs.
There is also a small pool and seasonal waterfall that occasionally run, making this area feel like a peaceful little sanctuary from the busy city life.
