The Iconic Hiking Trail In Alabama Is One Of The Coolest Outdoor Adventures You’ll Ever Take
Towering rock formations, waterfalls, and magical forest lands await at Walls of Jericho, hands down the best hiking trail in Northeast Alabama. This natural area comprises 21,453 acres and straddles the Alabama and Tennessee lines, with the 12,510-acre Alabama portion within Jackson County.
The Forever Wild Land Trust bought Alabama's acreage of this area in 2004 from private ownership and began developing it for natural recreation, including hiking and horseback trails.
While there are many activities the public can enjoy there now, the 6.6-mile, out-and-back trail is the most popular. While there are some flat areas and clear views of the area's hills, much of the trail is rocky and has many switchbacks.
Because of that, and elevation gain on the way back out, it's rated as hard and takes three to four hours to complete, on average. It's a favorite nonetheless because the views are worth the work.
The trail treats the eyes with towering rock formations and plenty of water features thanks to Hurricane Creek.
The namesake for the area is a towering limestone bluff.
Dogs are welcome at Walls of Jericho and are allowed to be off-leash in some areas.

If you need more convincing, here's a better perspective of the view. Can you imagine waking up to that, especially in the fall?
If getting a little closer to nature is your thing, you might consider glamping in a bell tent at Graham Farm Nature Preserve in Estillfork, which is just 16 miles southwest of the trailhead.
