Gulf State Park is located on Alabama's beautiful Gulf Coast in Gulf Shores. It boasts two miles of gorgeous white-sand beaches, a nature center, hiking trails, and a lake that attracts numerous people from near and far.
One of the many reasons Gulf State Park receives countless visitors each year is that it offers such a variety of recreational activities for all ages, from swimming to fishing to hiking, biking, and camping-- there's an activity for anyone wanting to experience the outdoors. While exploring Gulf State Park, you'll also encounter all kinds of wildlife, such as bald eagles in their special nesting area and families of deer strolling the park grounds. There's even a butterfly garden, which is just magical during the spring and summer months when everything is in bloom. Naturally, gators are a common sighting, especially near the lakes.
As you walk along the shoreline, you might even witness dolphins frolicking around in the ocean water.
While the beach might be the star of the show, there are dozens of hiking trails at Gulf State Park that are worth your time. The trails vary in length, ranging from epic 12-mile adventures to short and sweet half-mile treks, making them an easy side quest option for when you need a break from the beach. They’re all kid-friendly and will lead you through the park's diverse ecosystems.
If you really want to get your steps in, consider the 12-mile High S. Branyon Backcountry Trail. It’s the longest trail in the park, and it’s a fan favorite.
When it comes to accommodations at Gulf State Park, there are plenty of options. There are 20 cabins at the park with beautiful views of Lake Shelby, 496 campsites with options for full hook-up RV sites, 11 primitive camping sites, and even a Hilton Hotel—the Lodge at Gulf State Park.
