The Ruth McClellan Abronski Splinter Hill Bog Preserve, best known as Splinter Hill Bog Preserve, is a beautiful bog preserve that's located on Alabama's Gulf Coast in Bay Minette. It's also one of the stops on the Alabama Coastal Birding Trail.

This beautiful bog preserve is home to some of the most spectacular pitcher plants in the world. Other types of wildflowers are also found here.

The moment you arrive at Splinter Hill Bog Preserve, you'll immediately take notice of these unique plants. After all, it's not every day you see acres upon acres of pitcher plants.

For those of you unfamiliar with pitcher plants, they're simply carnivorous plants that consume insects. The way this happens is insects are drawn into the pitcher plant's interior cavity, they fall into the liquid at the base of the flower, and then they're digested until they become nutrients.

In addition to pitcher plants, Splinter Hill Bog Preserve also features 4.3 miles of multi-use trails that meander through the preserve. These trails make it much easier for visitors to explore the area.
