Travelers who were passing through eventually started asking for a place to stay, and the Lemon family started renting out rooms and cooking guest meals.

The lodge was eventually called The Halfway Inn because of its location halfway between Bozeman and West Yellowstone.
It served as a hub for the local community and travelers alike until 1946, with services expanding to include a gas pump, store, and smokehouse. When the new owners purchased it, they closed down all businesses except the inn.
