There’s An Incredible Meteor Shower Happening This Summer And Missouri Has A Front Row Seat
In rural Missouri, stars light up the night sky. This year, we’re in for an extra special treat because a meteor shower will be viable all across the state this summer. The annual Perseid Meteor Shower will be taking place on the night of August 11th and 12th this year. The 11th falls on a Saturday, so plan accordingly and stay up all night to watch this beautiful, natural phenomenon. Missouri is home to one of the best viewing spots in our country! The Perseids Meteor Shower occurs in the Northern Hemisphere from mid-July through late August each year. The peak typically occurs in mid-August.
Luckily, Washington State Park is hosting special meteor shower event. Campers can pitch a tent or open-air sleep, free of cost, to get a great view of the meteor shower. There will also be programming throughout the night that will enhance your meteor viewing experience.

Don't forget to charge your phones before you come. The camp sites will not have electricity and generators will not be allowed. However, you won't want to miss identifying stars and snapping pics while you're there.
This amazing meteor shower only occurs once a year, and it's a viewing experience you'll never forget. You'll be able to view this shower from almost anywhere in Missouri, but camping at Washington State Park is a great opportunity to learn more about the Perseids and explore the great outdoors.
