A trip to our favorite zoo is often a fun way to spend a few hours and provides a glimpse of animals we usually wouldn’t see in our own neighborhoods. Missouri’s also home to several sanctuaries that offer a one-of-a-kind experience. This wolf sanctuary in Missouri, for example, provides the unique opportunity to get an up-close view of endangered wolves while also learning more about them.
A tour of the Endangered Wolf Center in Eureka offers a one-of-a-kind opportunity to learn more about endangered wolves, African Painted Dogs, and foxes.
For more than five decades, the Missouri organization has advocated for, among others, Mexican red wolves, in a variety of ways, including by planned breeding and reintroduction into the wild.
The Endangered Wolf Center also offers educational programs, tours, and events throughout the year. Get an introduction to this highly-respected organization on one of its numerous tours.
Billed as the center’s signature tour, the Endangered Species Tour provides insight into why wolves are so important in the wild. You’ll begin with a classroom experience, learning about these majestic animals.
Arguably the highlight of the experience, the tour of the animal habitat will give you an up-close view of some of the sanctuary’s residents, including Mexican wolves, red wolves, African Painted Dogs, and swift wolves.
An experienced guide will lead the way. Be prepared to walk one mile on this adventure that usually lasts around 90 minutes. It’s just one encounter that is offered.
If you’re an amateur or a seasoned photographer, sign up for the photography tour. The Foxy Fun Encounter, on the other hand, takes you behind the scenes, with the resident foxes.
Several add-on encounters are available too, including an enrichment experience that allows you to help care for the animals and an animal trainer experience.
