Open For Nearly Half A Century, Highland House In Michigan Is Always A Timeless Dining Experience
The Great Lake State has plenty of fantastic dining experiences, like retro drive-ins and vintage diners. But nothing beats a classic and timeless restaurant like this gem in Highland, Michigan. You have to try the homemade breadsticks that have a cult following.
Highland House is located in Southeast Michigan about one hour outside of Detroit.
There is a rich history behind the restaurant. The family has been in the restaurant business for over 60 years. Different family members have created delicious homemade recipes that are still used today.
While the business opened in the 1970s, the restaurant moved next door to a brand new and spacious building. The structure may be contemporary, but the family-friendly atmosphere has carried over the “where everybody knows your name” feeling.
You can’t visit Highland House without ordering the famous breadsticks. On a snowy day in 1967, the man who delivers bread didn’t show up, and Tony decided to make his own bread. He tested out many shapes and flavors before the iconic breadstick recipe was born.
There are worldwide food options including tasty Italian dishes such as pizza, baked mostaccioli, pasta alfredo, and lasagna. These entrees would be a perfect pairing with the housemade breadsticks!
Other popular menu items are the Greek food options, especially the Greek salad using a long-time family dressing recipe. If you’re in the mood for American cuisine, Highland also has mouthwatering ribs, sandwiches, and chicken wings.
