This Remote State Forest In Massachusetts Is The Perfect Place To Escape
Harold Parker State Forest in Massachusetts offers a peaceful escape with extensive trails, ponds, and camping facilities.
There is so much going on all over the state this time of year. While I love taking part in big events and festivals, I sometimes require a bit of quiet and solitude to relax and recharge. There are many peaceful spots in the state of Massachusetts that are perfect for a remote escape, and Harold Parker State Forest is one of the best.
Harold Parker State Forest is made up of over 3,000 acres of publicly-owned land and is located within four towns in the Andover, Massachusetts area. This large park contains many miles of trails and several ponds.
Although it is a popular place to spend some time outside, the vast size of the forest allows visitors to spread out and have space to themselves.
There are 35 miles of trails within the forest. They range from easy mile-long trails to moderate hikes up to 17 miles long.
The Field Pond trail is a beautiful loop walk that takes about an hour to complete.
Depending on which trail you choose, you may see brooks, wildflowers, and many different varieties of trees and plants.
There are 11 ponds within the forest. In the summer months, you can enjoy fishing, swimming, kayaking, and canoeing on many of these.
Other popular activities within the forest include mountain biking, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing.
Harold Parker State Forest also has a camping area, Lorraine Campground, which is open from May to October.
There are 91 campsites available to rent. Pitch a tent or bring your RV or trailer. Amenities include bathrooms (with showers and flush toilets) and a playground. Each campsite has a grill, water source, fire pit, and picnic table. The campsites are large and spread out from one another, so you should have plenty of privacy.
