There’s no doubt that the culinary scene across Maine is booming. Between new bars, James Beard nominated restaurants and revamped diners, the state has seen more national press in the last few years than ever before. But, most of the news for this burgeoning food scene is focused on cities like Portland and Camden. It’s tempting to follow the crowds, but we recommend you try getting off-the-beaten path once in a while. When you do, head straight for 76 Pleasant Street in Norway!

76 Pleasant Street sits quietly on (you guessed it!) Pleasant Street, within walking distance of the Norway Historical downtown area.

Last winter, the barn was rebuilt to create a wonderful space for weddings and other events.

The house in which it exists was the 1896 Judge William Jones house and today it continues to hold cozy vibes.

While we love the atmosphere of the restaurant, it's the food that most people travel for.

Tons of nationalities are represented in the dishes served here, such as the Naan bread with lamb chorizo, asiago, romesco and yogurt.

The restaurant works to mix the flavors of the local market with menus that reflect the difference that can be seen in each season throughout Maine.

While many restaurants with varied meals are forced to bring in ingredients from far, far away, 76 Pleasant Street has managed to focus on the simplicity of fine ingredients and thoughtful presentations.

The menu changes from season to season and year to year, but always includes local food such as this dish featuring Maine chanterelles, truffle toast and caviar on top of a golden cherry tomato and port redux.

In addition to being as local as possible, the food sourced is also as natural as can be! A great example of that is this grilled organic chicken with saffron Israeli cous cous.

While Norway has certainly seen an influx of people since the addition of the Norway Brewing Company, the town remains rural and just a bit hidden, making 76 Pleasant Street feel like something particularly special!
