1. York, York County

3. Scarborough, Cumberland County

Another one of the wealthiest towns in Maine, Scarborough is a wonderful family-friendly neighborhood. Its 16,800 residents have a median household income of $56,897. It comes in as #2,668 on the list of richest cities in America. Even if you can't live here, come visit Prouts Neck, pictured. And try and see a sunrise during a visit to Scarborough.

4. Yarmouth, Cumberland County

Yarmouth is the seventh richest town in Maine. Its 8,500 residents have a median household income of $58,636. It comes in at #2,357 on the list of richest cities in America. Yarmouth also has an awesome Farmer's Market.

5. North Yarmouth, Cumberland County

North Yarmouth's nearly 3,000 residents have a median household income of $61,300, placing it as the sixth richest town in Maine. It comes in as #1,956 on the list of richest cities in America. Grab an ice cream from Toot's in North Yarmouth.

6. Cape Neddick, York County

Cape Neddick is best known as the home of the beautiful Nubble Lighthouse. And it's also one of the most expensive towns in Maine, ranking at number five. Its 2,000 residents have a median household income of $62,069. It ranks #1,853 on the list of richest towns in America.

7. Falmouth, Cumberland County

Falmouth's 10,296 residents have a median household income of $66,855, placing it as the fourth richest town in Maine. It is #1,360 on the list of richest towns in America. Here's a gorgeous hiking trail in Falmouth to explore.

8. Cumberland Center, Cumberland County

These small pockets of Cumberland dominate the list of the wealthiest towns in Maine. Cumberland Center's 5,600 residents have a median household income of $67,833, placing them at #1,275 in the nation. The best thing about Cumberland Center is the fact that large homes are surrounded by lovely, modest homes as well. Cumberland is also one of the safest cities in the state.

9. Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland County

Cape Elizabeth is perhaps best known as the location of the Portland Head Light as well as one being home to one of the best lobster food trucks in Maine. But, it's also fairly well known for the mansions that dot the coastline. Its population of about 9,000 people comes with a median household income of $72,359, making this one of the most expensive towns in Maine. That seems low to us given the size of those coastal homes, but we'll chalk it up to not understanding how the real estate market really works. The town ranks as #938 of the the richest towns in all of America.

10. Cumberland Foreside, Cumberland County

Cumberland Foreside is a small portion of Cumberland. It bears the distinction of being the wealthiest town in Maine with a median household income of about $100,000 among its 1,200 residents. The "foreside" in its name indicates its proximity to the Fore River. It is ranked #184 of the richest towns in America. There's a lot to explore at the Fore River.
