Abita Springs Cafe is a charming little restaurant with a fascinating history.

The building dates back to 1881 and served as a local butcher shop until 1919. After that, it changed hands a number of times, becoming home to several businesses throughout the years.

In 1979, Walter J. Belsom purchased the building and opened one of the most incredible restaurants in the area.

Abita Springs Cafe quickly became famous for its breakfasts and beloved by locals and visitors alike. From the moment you set foot in this charming cafe, you'll feel right at home.

The outdoor dining area is a picture-perfect spot to enjoy your meal.

If it's not too hot, that is. If not, there's plenty of seating indoors.

Breakfast is served daily from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m., which makes it great for those that aren’t early birds.

Breakfast for lunch? Let’s do it!

The breakfast menu includes several traditional dishes like omelets, biscuits and gravy, and French toast.

But, of course, Abita Springs Cafe puts its own unique spin on them. Pictured above is their Flambeaux Omelet. This fluffy omelet is stuffed with hot sausage, andouille sausage, banana peppers, hot peppers, onions, and pepper jack cheese, then drizzled with spicy flambeaux sauce.

We hope you’re hungry because the portions here are huge.

They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so it’s only fair to start it off with a hearty feast, right?

Abita Springs Cafe’s Cajun Praline Chicken & Waffles are a favorite for many.

You’ve never had chicken and waffles like these before. The hand-battered, boneless fried chicken beasts are served atop a bed of two sweet cream waffles and candied pecans, dusted with powdered sugar, and served with Cajun praline syrup. Yum!
