The delicious food is your reward for the journey. And the drive itself is along one of the most magical roads in the whole country. Prepare your taste buds now, because this epic destination is calling your name.
Wallace Station Deli and Bakery is located at 3854 Old Frankfort Pike, Versailles, KY 40383.
It is one of the many restaurants owned by Chef Ouita Michel, who is very well-known in the culinary world. She has been nominated as Best Chef Southeast and Best Restaurateur several times by the James Beard Foundation.
This delectable dining destination is located in the heart of Kentucky's horse country, so you'll enjoy a gorgeous journey on your way to the eatery.
This lovely drive is nicknamed "Thoroughbred Alley" due to the abundance of beautiful horse farms. Driving this road should be on every Kentuckian's bucket list... and every out-of-towner's, too! This spot is beautiful all year round, but it's most stunning at sunrise or sunset.
Good thing Wallace Station Deli serves breakfast, because you could see a beautiful sight like this, go get some wonderful food, and then head to nearby Keeneland Race Course or Woodford Reserve Distillery (or both). Now that would be the most "Kentucky" day ever!
You order at a counter inside, where you can still easily imagine what this building must have looked like when it was just an old country store in the early 1900s.
You can also order for curbside pickup, which is arguably even more rewarding since you can find a pretty spot along this stretch of road to pull over and eat while you admire the local landscape.
Don't forget to look at their delicious baked goods.
A trip to Wallace Station Deli isn't complete without a freshly made cookie or pastry. The flour they use to bake comes from the Weisenberger Mill, which is just down the road. All of their ingredients, from the butter to the chocolate, are real.
If the weather is nice, sit outside on their back deck or one of their picnic tables.
Guy Fieri of "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives" called this one of the top 5 burgers he's ever eaten. The beef for this juicy burger is from right here in Kentucky, and it is served with ham, bacon, tomato, and white cheddar Mornay. Of course, Kentucky-style fried chicken is also available at this landmark.
You can also get a panini version of Kentucky's favorite dish, the Hot Brown. Their Inside Out Hot Brown is turkey, ham, bacon, tomato, and white cheddar Mornay on a grilled panini. Whatever you decide on, however, you'll leave this place feeling satisfied!
Each trip to Wallace Station Deli and Bakery is endlessly satisfying. Treat your taste buds and prepare to fall in love.

I grew up in Louisville, Kentucky. I have lived elsewhere twice, but keep coming back. I'm a video editor and freelance writer who enjoys watching people wearing University of Louisville uniforms excel at sports, scaling the faces of large rocks, and hanging out with my border collie/laborador/cattle dog mutt thingy that I have.
