Many of the adventurous areas of our state offer several hiking trails, some of which can be experienced in the same day. Kentuckians love to visit Cumberland Falls State Resort Park to see the largest waterfall in our state, but you can also enjoy another hiking trail that is often ranked one of the best in Kentucky. The Eagle Falls Trail is fairly short, but has so many beautiful features, including one you’ll really enjoy on a hot day. Hike to the falls and then cool off with a dip in this refreshing natural pool in Kentucky for a memorable adventure in the Bluegrass.
Cumberland Falls State Resort Park is a popular destination in Kentucky for obvious reasons.
Not only is the lodge amazing and it's a fun place to spend a few days, this park is home to the largest waterfall in Kentucky. The easy hike to Cumberland Falls is a must, but many prefer the Eagle Falls Trail for its views, diversity, and waterfall with a natural pool in Kentucky.
The trailhead for Eagle Falls, also known as Trail 9, is right on 90 and easy to access.
Since it is a popular hike, if you want to avoid crowds, try a weekday or first thing in the morning. The trail is a total of about a mile and a half and takes you out a bit and then loops around with the falls near the point of the trail that's furthest out.

This moderate trail does have a decent elevation change, but that climb means you'll have some amazing views.
In fact, most of this trail follows along the ridge, overlooking the river and Cumberland Falls, so don't forget your camera and take your time to enjoy the scenery.
The flow of the waterfall changes with the weather, but it's typically visible and one of the most picturesque falls in the state. Be sure to be respectful of other visitors to the area and enjoy yourself, but make time for others to get photos and views of the waterfall.
On a hot day, you'll likely see a few hikers brave the cool water and go for a swim in this natural pool in Kentucky.
As with any adventure, be cautious and aware of your surroundings. The rocks are slippery and swimming here can be dangerous, and all activities are at your own risk.
The rest of the trail is just as scenic with rock formations and a variety of plant life.
As you hike, be sure to leave no trace and show respect to our incredible park system. You may even want to bring along an extra trash bag on this hike to pick up any garbage on the trail, which you'll likely unfortunately see.
