Breakfast is the most important meal of the day — why not enjoy it? Especially when there are several restaurants throughout the Hawkeye State that understand this. Whether a signature omelet, a heaping stack of pancakes or eggs Benedict is your breakfast food of choice, Iowa has just the breakfast joint for you. Dixie Quicks is the place to go for breakfast in the Council Bluffs area. The restaurant offers a unique blend of Southern cooking with Cajun, Tex-Mex and Southwest elements. Bluebird Diner in Iowa City is a cozy yet quaint diner that serves up more than just your average cafe breakfast. Downtown Central Perk is a vegetarian coffee house and juice bar located in the historic Central Office Building in Downtown Davenport. If you crave a freshly pressed juice or smoothie in the morning, there's no place like Central Perk. They also offer some pretty delicious meals whose great taste can be enjoyed by not just vegetarians, but anyone!
6. Duncan's Cafe, Council Bluffs
Nestled in a historic part of Council Bluffs is Duncan's - a cozy, family-run cafe that serves up some of the best breakfast in town. Plus, the place is decorated with lots of fun old memorabilia that gives you a taste of local history.
7. Hamburg Inn No. 2, Iowa City
A hot spot for presidential candidates visiting Iowa, Hamburg Inn has been visited by everyone from Ronald Reagan to Bill Clinton to Barack Obama. Want to know why they keep coming back? Well, if we had to guess, we would say it's the top-notch breakfast food. Particularly their mouth-watering french toast.
8. Cafe Indigo, Davenport
Cafe Indigo in Davenport is a great upscale cafe that serves up American cuisine with a twist. You can taste the difference, as all of their items are made from scratch using fresh ingredients.
9. Jimmy's Pancake House, Bettendorf
Jimmy's Pancake House serves up all your favorite breakfast food in a cozy and friendly environment. Obviously, their pancakes are fantastic.
10. Morg's Cafe, Waterloo
Morg's is a tiny little place on Mulberry Street that offers big servings and low prices on all the classics. The diner is very old school, but in the best way - including the jukebox at every booth. Be sure to try their pecan pancakes.
11. Mullet's, Des Moines
Mullet's is a great place to get breakfast, especially when it's nice enough to enjoy your meal on the roof, where you will get a fantastic view of the Des Moines skyline. Be sure to grab one of their mimosas while you're at it.
12. Waveland Cafe, Des Moines
If you're a hashbrowns person, there is no place better than Waveland. The hype about their hashbrowns is well deserved, and the rest of their menu is just as good.
