Three Generations Of An Indiana Family Have Owned And Operated The Legendary Nashville House
Brown County, situated in central Indiana, is well-known for some very specific things – namely, its outrageous amount of natural beauty seemingly everywhere you turn. Frequently referred to as the “most beautiful” county in the Hoosier State, we tend to agree, but there’s a little something nestled within Brown County that – should you have lived there long enough – you might ALSO directly associate with the region. It’s a cozy little stop-shop and mom-and-pop restaurant in Indiana that’s been around since the 1920s; known as The Nashville Room, it’s a lively staple of Indiana’s history. Check it out!
Ask anyone in Brown County, and especially in Nashville, where you can find the best comfort food and goodies around, and chances are they'll tell you to pay a visit to The Nashville House.
The original building was constructed in 1859 as both a restaurant and hostel. In 1927, the building was purchased and renovated by an A.J. Rogers and company. In 1943, however, the building would burn to the ground, and when it was rebuilt, it was designed without the room and board attached; nevertheless, the place quickly returned to its original status as a beloved stop for light shopping and amazing food.
In 1959, Rogers would pass the business down to his son, who put his own touches and flair into the place (while keeping the recipes, menu, and everything else that makes it what it is).
The new owner - Andy Rogers - would go on to not only breathe new life into The Nashville House, but into the surrounding community as well. He was a major contributor to making the entire town what it is today; his contribution has not been in any way forgotten.
In 2018, when he passed, Andy's daughter decided that she couldn't bear to let the family legacy go - so she took up the helm after a brief closure and, like her father and his father before him, added her own little touches to the shop and restaurant.

Best of all? Those original recipes are still in use today.
The marinara sauce they use is a 120-year-old recipe from the Rogers family elders themselves - the original founders of the House. There's something amazing and homey about every single item on the menu; all of it tastes like something grandma would have made back in the day, and we cannot get enough of it.
