Since 1929 Underbrink’s Bakery Has Provided Mouthwatering Sweet Treats To Generations Of Illinoisans
For nearly 100 years, Underbrink’s Bakery has been serving from-scratch baked goods to generations of Illinoisans. It has been a neighborhood favorite and *the* go-to bakery for cookies, cakes, cupcakes, bread, pies, danish, muffins, and many other mouthwatering treats! Let’s have a look at this historic bakery in Illinois:
In 1929, the bakery was opened in Quincy by its namesake, Claude Underbrink. Many of Claude's original recipes are still being used today.
As you step through the doors of Underbrink's, you'll get a taste of the past, both with the classic baked goods and the vintage decor. On display inside the store are antique baking tools, containers, antique ovens, and mixers from the 1930s.
You can call ahead and reserve a tour if you'd like. Tours are available only on weekdays.
Underbrink's Bakery is famous for its iced angel food cupcakes. If you haven't tried one yet, get to the bakery early because they sell out fast! Who wouldn't want to sink their teeth into a soft, fluffy white cake covered in decadent buttercream? Yum!
This is the most popular item at the bakery and you will want to get yours hands on one.
What's your favorite pie? Chances are Underbrink's makes it. A variety of fruit pies like cherry, apple, peach, and strawberry-rhubarb as well as more decadent pies like banana cream, chocolate cream, and coconut cream are made from scratch. Most pies are available year-round with additional flavors offered seasonally.
Bread is also baked daily. You can get a loaf of white, 8-grain, rolls, or butter croissants. This bakery is also known for its historic Boston Brown bread, a dark brown bread baked in tin cans.
A variety of cakes are available daily including German chocolate cake, black forest cake, and Boston cream pie cake. Or you can grab some cupcakes in flavors like German chocolate, red velvet, and carrot.
Have you been to this old-world German bakery before? If so, what treats did you get? We would love to know, so go ahead and share in the comments!
