Port Edward was founded in 1964 and is located in downtown Algonquin along the Fox River. Open for lunch, dinner, and late night drinks, this is one of the most unique eateries in Illinois.
The restaurant features a fun yet relaxed atmosphere locals love to enjoy time and again. It is open for lunch and dinner on Fridays and Saturdays while Tuesday through Thursday hours are just 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays consist of brunch and dinner hours.
The best thing about this place is its unique dining options. Built in 1934, the "Porpoise" floats in an indoor harbor, though it used to call the waters of the Great Lakes home. The cabin seats four and is available to reserve for special occasions.
Reservations open in October for this amazing experience and fill up quickly, so call in ASAP.
Another interesting dining option is this 1920s windmill. Guests enjoy a secluded alcove that has a booth for private seating for up to four guests.
Guests may also sit outdoors along the river. This is best during the warmer months but views are still breathtaking in fall and winter.
Additional seating includes the Secret Room, Salem Lounge, the Lobster Cove, the Old Deck, and the Navigator's Room as well as other indoor rooms with views of the Fox River.
This eatery is known for seafood and steak dishes, and it delivers amazing tastes daily with fresh mussels, shrimp, calamari, crab, scallops, lobster, and different types of fish.
Additional entrees include filet Mignon, rib eye, lamb chops, burgers, and other sandwiches. There are also many appetizers and desserts you can't help but indulge in.
The Sunday brunch menu includes eggs Benedict, cheese blintzes, waffles, biscuits and gravy, and desserts like creme brulée and bread pudding.
Additional attractions at this nautical restaurant include live music and a full wine cellar. It has also won honors and awards from various websites and other entities, naming it the most unique restaurant in Illinois.
