The Small Town In Idaho Boasting World-Famous Pie Is The Sweetest Day Trip Destination

Often, the best things in life are hiding in the most unexpected places. That’s certainly true at Trudy’s Kitchen, located in the small town of Idaho City on Highway 21. This family-owned, small-town restaurant serves some of the best homemade American food that you’ll ever taste. However, despite the incredible menu, there are two things that keep guests coming back  — the huckleberry cheesecake and the flaky, perfectly-prepared pies.

Idaho City is a small town northeast of Boise. Approximately 550 residents call this place home.

Idaho City actually has quite an interesting history. More than 150 years ago, it was once the largest city in the northwest. At one time, it had more than 7,000 residents, the majority were miners and gold seekers. When mining started to slow down, the town started to dwindle as well.
While there is only a handful of businesses and things to see and do in Idaho City, one that we are all excited to visit is Trudy’s Kitchen.

This small-town restaurant started in the 1990s and despite a few setbacks over the years, including the restaurant burning down, it is still a favorite place to eat for Idahoans and out-of-state visitors.

The pie flavors change each day so you'll definitely want to visit more than once. It's hard to narrow down your options.
