People Will Drive From All Over Idaho to Dixie’s Diner for the Nostalgia Alone

Step back in time at Dixie’s Diner in Idaho Falls, where retro 1950s vibes, classic comfort food, milkshakes, and all-day breakfast create one of Idaho’s most nostalgic dining experiences.

I often long for days when I can step back in time to when life was slower-paced and a little simpler. While I don’t have a time machine to travel back in time, there are still a few places in Idaho that let me immerse myself in nostalgia. Dixie’s Diner in Idaho Falls is one of these places. Not only will you enjoy some of the best food in southeastern Idaho, but you will also feel like you've entered an era with poodle skirts, sock hops, and rock 'n' roll icons.

Dixie’s Diner is an old-school 1950s-themed restaurant located on Channing Way in Idaho Falls. This restaurant is well known in Idaho Falls and the surrounding communities, and for good reason. While the exterior looks like it came straight from the '50s, you’ll really feel like you’ve stepped out of a time machine when you walk through its front doors. This diner features retro décor, and you’ll find little details, like neon signs and jukeboxes, that will take you back in time.

And while the atmosphere is incredible, so is the food. Dixie’s Diner serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and no matter what time of day you visit, you’ll have lots of choices. Breakfast is served all day at this Idaho diner, and there are dozens of options on the menu. Enjoy an omelet or a stack of pancakes. You can even build your own breakfast complete with two eggs, your choice of meat, potatoes, toast, and more.

If you stop by for lunch or dinner, make sure you come hungry because you will certainly leave with a full stomach. The menu is extensive and offers entrees like chicken sandwiches, hamburgers, and even seafood. During my last visit to this '50s-themed restaurant, I started with a mozzarella sticks appetizer, followed by the pastrami melt. Both dishes were delicious, and I didn't leave a single crumb on my plate.

And, of course, you can’t stop by a '50s diner without a milkshake. If you are too full after eating your meal, no worries. Simply take your shake to go. I also recommend a banana split, a float, or a slice of cake. My husband likes to order the strawberry cheesecake, and I always make sure to take several bites. It's delicious.

Whether you’ve only eaten at Dixie’s Diner once or you visit all of the time, you’ll quickly fall in love with this tasty place to eat in Idaho. Visit the Dixie's Diner website for additional information about its current hours, menu items, and more. I recommend following the Dixie's Diner Facebook page for news and updates as well.
