Here Are The 5 Richest People In Hawaii And What They Do
Approximately 30 percent of Hawaii’s residents reportedly earn more than $100,000 each year, with 5.5 percent of residents reporting more than $200,000 in income annually. And then there are those who earn far, far more than that – here are the five richest people with ties to the Aloha State, and how they made their fortunes.
1) Pierre Omidyar
The founder and chairman of eBay lives in Honolulu, and has a net worth of approximately $8.1 billion. Omidyar is also the co-founder of the Honolulu Civil Beat, a media company focused on investigative journalism.
2) Jay Shidler
With an estimated net worth of $700 million, Shidler is a Hawaii real estate mogul, and one of the richest people in Hawaii. He is the founder of the Shidler Group, a Honolulu-based company which has acquired and managed more than 2,000 properties across the United States, including retail centers and office buildings.
3) Blair Parry-Okeden
The granddaughter of Cox Enterprise founder, James Cox, Blair is not only Hawaii’s richest woman, but was also the richest person in Australia for quite some time, with an approximate net worth of $8.5 billion. Though she primarily lives in Australia, Blair graduated from Honolulu’s La Pietra School for Girls and serves on several local boards.
4) Steve Case
Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Case is the brother of former United States representative Ed Case. He made his fortune with the co-founding of the formerly popular American Online (A.O.L.).
5) Larry Ellison
Though not from Hawaii, Larry Ellison did purchase 98 percent of the Hawaiian island of Lanai for a reported $300 million. Ellison, the founder of Oracle Corp., has a net worth of $54.6 billion and is the richest person in California.
If only we could all own most of an island, right?
