The Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia sits on 160-acres of scenic, serene land overlooking the Wilmington River.

While the cemetery gained fame when it was featured in the novel Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, it has since retained a cult-like following due to its hauntingly beautiful atmosphere.

Visitors from all over come to this cemetery, meandering through the live oaks and blossoming azaleas.

Many have even dubbed Bonaventure as one of the most beautiful historic cemeteries in the entire world!

But despite all of its beauty, there is still some local lore about this cemetery that makes it very spooky.

As the legend goes, this old cemetery is haunted by a little girl named Gracie Watkins, who has been rumored to be heard crying at night.

Gracie died of pneumonia at age six in the late 1880s and has since been the infamous ghost of this cemetery.

Visitors leave toys at the bottom of the gravestone for her ghost to play with, especially around Christmas time.

It’s also been said that various ghosts roam the grounds at night, and visitors can see them if and only if they want to be seen.

While some may think this cemetery is one of the most haunted in the state, others find the beauty and history just as alluring.
