As a guy with a fairly healthy appetite, I figured I could manage a basket of bar food without much fuss. I was profoundly wrong. The burger was a stacked masterpiece of juicy beef, crisp bacon, fresh lettuce, onions, and tomato.
It was intimidating enough that it required a strategic approach to take the first bite. Alongside it rested a heaping pile of thick-cut steak fries. It was undeniably delicious, but halfway through the basket, I hit a wall. It was too much for me to finish, so happily defeated, I asked for a box.
What Makes This Wisconsin Food Challenge So Difficult
My own personal defeat is exactly what makes the food challenges at Gronk's Grill and Bar so staggering to consider, especially The Great Divide. Or if you're feeling particularly bold, you can attempt it solo. As Gronk's will tell you, it's not for the weak at heart. Watching someone even attempt to consume an 8-pound mountain of beef, cheese, bread, and potatoes is a captivating spectacle that completely shifts the energy of the dining room. It is, without a doubt, the most intimidating food challenge in Wisconsin.
What You Get With the Challenge
If you manage to conquer this behemoth, you don't just walk away with a devastatingly full stomach; you get your $50 meal comped, a t-shirt, and earn a coveted spot on the restaurant's Web Wall of Fame—along with eternal bragging rights, of course.

The Enger Tower challenge is a formidable secondary option for solo eaters unwilling to attempt the Great Divide, consisting of a total of 5 pounds of food: six individual half-pound beef patties, topped with cheese, and on a bun, alongside a daunting 2-pound shovel-load of fries. The six stacked beef patties deliberately represent the six levels of the actual Enger Tower, which overlooks the harbor above nearby Duluth, Minnesota. Challengers are given 2 hours to demolish the entire 5-pound mountain if they want to claim victory.
I think the bun and the 2 pounds of fries are the elements that make these some of the most intimidating food challenges in Wisconsin. Ultimately, though, you don't need to be a competitive eater to appreciate the unique magic of Gronk's Grill and Bar. Between the genuinely friendly service, great drinks, and a burger so hearty it easily bested me on a casual weeknight, this Superior staple offers a memorable meal and one of my favorite burgers in the Badger State.
