Housed In A Re-Purposed Gas Station, Lewis Station Winery Is One Of Wisconsin’s Most Unique Urban Wineries
Lewis Station Winery, a re-purposed 1940s gas station in Lake Mills, Wisconsin, is a certified craft winery offering small-batch wines, tasting flights, and bistro-style food.
Looks can be deceiving. For instance, at first glance, Lewis Station Winery appears to be a gas station – and that’s no coincidence. It was at one time a gas station. And though it still bears some signs of its former life, it’s now a full-fledged winery – complete with tasting flights and bistro-style food.
Lewis Station Winery is a premium urban winery in the heart of downtown Lake Mills.
It is Wisconsin’s first certified craft winery, but that’s only half of what makes it unique. The other half is its location in a re-purposed gas station from the 1940s.
Prior to the winery’s opening in 2011, the building underwent an extensive renovation. Despite the update, the building has retained the look and feel of an old-school gas station.
Don’t let the vintage vibe fool you, though. It’s got all the perks of a modern, world-class micro-winery, including a wonderful wine selection.
Sure to satisfy even the toughest of critics, Lewis Station Winery specializes in small-batch, hand-crafted wines, which are made using a low sulfite, natural approach.
Much more than a place to purchase bottles of wine, the winery offers tasting flights as well as free tastings.
There are specialty drinks, too, such as wine slushies.
In addition to an assorted selection of wines, Lewis Station Winery carries a large variety of Wisconsin craft beers.
An incredible bistro-style menu only enhances the beverage selection.
Not surprisingly, ample praise has been bestowed upon Lewis Station Winery in the decade it’s been open.
One of the greatest compliments was its inclusion in the publication, Hidden Gems of America: Wineries and Vineyards 2019.
