The last time you were driving through our great state and hunger struck, did you take a chance on new restaurants in Washington or settle for your go-to fast food spot or convenience store snacks? It's hard to know if a roadside restaurant is worth trying based on looks alone. But if you pass one of the places on this list, you won't regret stopping for a meal. Here are 10 of the best places to eat in Washington:

1. Fat Smitty's, 282624 US Hwy 101, Port Townsend

Located on the Olympic Highway, Fat Smitty's has a building you won't be able to miss. The interior is equally as quirky, with dollar bills plastered on the walls and ceilings. The burgers are both enormous and delicious, and the shakes are incredible.

2. Country Cousin, 1054 Harrison Ave., Centralia

Since 1973, Country Cousin has been serving delightful comfort food to Centralia locals and travelers driving down I-5. From hearty breakfasts to old-fashioned dinners, the portions are nice and hearty.

3. Pickles Deli, 11042 State Rte 525, Clinton

Don't be fooled by the simple exterior of this Whidbey Island gem. The sandwiches are delightful.

4. Fiesta Bonita 420 Three Rivers Drive, Kelso

This family-owned restaurant is located in the Three Rivers Mall and is one of the best restaurants along I-5 in Washington. It's a great place to stop for a tasty Mexican meal.

5. Cow Creek Mercantile, 1611 S Smitty's Blvd., Ritzville

You've probably seen this building if you've taken I-90 East to Spokane. Inside, you would have found so much more than a gift shop - they served pizza, calzones, soup, salad, and pies, all made from scratch. (Editor's Note: Unfortunately, Cow Creek Mercantile has closed its doors for good.)

6. Little Viking Drive-In, 340 SW Hwy 14, Stevenson

Whether you're craving a tasty cheeseburger or a giant milkshake, it was once found at this charming drive-in on Highway 14. (Editor's Note: Regrettably, Little Viking Drive In is no longer in business.)

7. Green Olive Cafe, 2926 Covey Ln., Sunnyside

Located just off I-82 in Sunnyside, the Green Olive Cafe was a charming and pleasant place to enjoy classic bistro fare. (Editor's Note: Sadly, Green Olive Cafe has permanently closed.)

8. Ranch House BBQ & Steakhouse, 10841 Kennedy Creek Rd. SW, Olympia

Perhaps you've passed by this little gem on your way to the coast via State Route 8. The next time you do, stop in for some of the best BBQ in the state. Get a closer look at the scrumptious food here:

9. Molly's Family Restaurant, 224 S Lincoln St., Spokane

Sometimes you just need a good old-fashioned stick-to-your-ribs breakfast, even if it's 3 PM. You'll find that at Molly's, located just off I-90 in Spokane. Just don't order the Molly's Mess (pictured here) unless you're REALLY hungry.

10. Mykonos Greek Restaurant, 1650 W Bakerview Rd., Bellingham

This delightful Mediterranean restaurant is located just off I-5, and it's well worth pulling over to enjoy. In fact, it's the best place in Bellingham to find authentic Greek food.
