Because, to be fair, there are several towns and cities here in Virginia that are doing incredible things with pizza. In that spirit, we've designed the ultimate pizza bucket list that includes some of the most mouthwatering spots in the state. The bottom line: there is no shortage of incredible pizza selection in VA. Here are 13 spots to add to your pizza bucket list:

1. Melting Pot Pizza (Front Royal)

2. Windy City Pizza (Virginia Beach)

If ever you find yourself craving authentic Chicago-style deep dish pizza, look no further than Windy City Pizza in Virginia Beach. 6. Lena's Wood-Fired Pizza (Alexandria)

In the mood for something a bit out of the ordinary? Lena's Wood-Fired Pizza in Alexandria has you covered. They've got a delicious gluten-free chickpea crust and toppings that include shrimp, clams, and all sorts of meat and veggie combos. And then there's dessert. 7. Anna's Brick Oven Pizza

Sometimes, all you need is a massive cheesy pizza to dive into. Here at Anna's in Williamsburg, this is precisely what you'll find. This spot has a comfy atmosphere and the portions are as generous as they look in the above photograph. If you can't finish what you order in one sitting, you'll have delicious leftovers to enjoy. 8. Benny's (Blacksburg)

And since we're on the topic of generous portions, Benny's in Blacksburg is renowned for their massive slices, beloved among college students. This hole-in-the-wall spot is perfect for a quick slice that's sure to hit the spot. As you might imagine from the photograph above, finishing just one slice is no easy feat. 9. Waterstone Pizza (Lynchburg)

The hand-tossed crust at Waterstone Pizza is just one of the many factors that make their pizzas delicious. While you certainly want to try any of the delicious pizza options here (the toppings are absolutely delicious), be sure to order an appetizer as well. 10. The Bakehouse (Norfolk)

When a bakery specializes in pizza, you know you're in for a real treat. This cozy spot in Norfolk serves brick-oven pizzas that people absolutely adore, especially the bacon and smoked gouda photographed above. 11. Creek Bottom Brews (Galax)

This spot may specialize in craft brews, but the pizza here is equally delicious. It's not your average bar food, but one of many reasons why locals love this joint. Photographed above, the Bellissima pizza from Dr. Ho's Humble Pie is one of the most popular items you'll find at this cozy establishment outside of Charlottesville.
