Rhode Island’s Whimsical Olympia Tea Room Is Truly A Local Treasure

Olympia Tea Room in Watch Hill is a century-old eatery known for its wine, cocktails, and seafood, opening seasonally from April to fall.

You won't find much Earl Grey on the menu at Olympia Tea Room in Westerly. Despite its name, this century-old eatery is best known for its wine, cocktails, and scrumptious seafood. Watch Hill's favorite neighborhood gem is about to open for the season, and we couldn't be happier.

Located on Bay Street in the elegant Watch Hill neighborhood, the Olympia Tea Room dates all the way back to 1916.

That's before Prohibition, among many other historical events.

Originally, this place was a soda shop, and it was run by three Greek brothers until 1978.

Jack and Marcia Felber bought the place in 1980, turning it into the restaurant it is today.

Aesthetically, not much has changed here in the last half a century.

The walls remain carnation pink, and "famous, not fancy" seems to be the theme.

The Olympia has only been serving dinner since the 90s -- and this is dinner done right.

They source their ingredients locally, so everything is always fresh and delicious.

While the menu has a lot of seafood selections, that's not all you can enjoy here.

There are some hearty entrees, salads and sandwiches you can enjoy. They even have a pizza on the appetizer list.

The wine list here is exceptional -- but if you imbibe, we suggest starting with a creative cocktail.

Not only are the pours extremely generous, but it took this business 14 years to get a liquor license. They put it to good use.

The Olympia Tea Room opens at the end of April and closes each fall.

If you've never been to this timeless treasure, make this the season you go.
