We Love Swedish Candy, Here’s Where to Get It in Pennsylvania

Looking for the best Swedish candy in Pennsylvania? Those delicious gummies and licorice ropes can be found not far from Lancaster's Amish countryside.

I've been making semi-regular trips to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, over the last few years, primarily to visit my favorite spots for Amish groceries and buffets, as well as to see shows at the local American Music Theater. But every time I take the Amtrak directly to the city from New Jersey, I discover something new. One spot that I'm guaranteed to visit every time I'm in town now is Sweetish Candy, a unique candy store that's far and away the best spot for Swedish candy in Pennsylvania.

If you haven't tried Swedish candy yet, you'll be blown away by the unique twists on gummies, licorice, and chocolate offered here. It takes the beloved, familiar forms of candy we all know, and infuses them with unique flavors that are unlike anything available in the United States. It's no surprise that this has become one of the hottest food trends out there right now—Swedish candy is going viral, and one of the best places to find it is only minutes away from Amish Country! It's the kind of unique food surprise you can only find in Pennsylvania.

Lancaster's Queen Street business district couldn't be more different from the small Amish towns that surround it. It's a thriving and diverse city, with great restaurants, unique boutiques, and an easy-to-use transit system. Only minutes from the bus station, you'll find Sweetish Candy on the corner, and once you step inside, you won't be leaving without a delicious haul.

Sweetish Candy has one of the largest selections of Swedish candy in the United States. Almost the entire selection is sold by weight, with all candy being the same price, so you can mix and match to your heart's content.

The variety changes constantly, and I encourage you to get a little of everything that looks even a little interesting—you never know what your next favorite will be! There are four main kinds of candy here: gummies, licorice, marshmallows, and chocolates. All have unique flavors that are hard to find anywhere else. Some of my favorites include the sour orange cola bottles, the sour fruit gums, and the sweet-and-sour watermelon slices.

The candy is tempting on its own, but the store also sells a wide variety of Scandinavian goodies. The cookie tins are hard to resist; the super-thin and crispy gingerbread cookies are one of those treats I'll never get on the Amtrak back to New Jersey without. There's even a selection of Scandinavian sodas, and a cooler with some surprising savory options.
