9 Foods That Every Portlander Craves When They Leave Portland

Portland is renowned for its diverse and unique food scene, including donuts, artisanal ice cream, and a vibrant beer culture.

Portland is a food paradise, so it is not hard to imagine that if you ever leave, you are going to miss a thing or two. While everyone's food experiences in the city may be different, these are some of the top foods that you may just start craving after your departure from the City of Roses.

1. Donuts

We do donuts right in Portland, and it is no wonder you would miss them. Whether you are a Blue Star fan or a Voodoo one, there is a donut for you in Portland.

2. Ice Cream

Portland has some of the best artisanal ice cream around. If you are a fan of Salt and Straw, What's the Scoop?, Ruby Jewel Scoops, or Fifty Licks, there is plenty of wonderful ice cream here is Portland that you will certainly long for if you leave.

3. Beer

Portland has one of the best beer scenes around. With 58 breweries in the city and 84 in the metro area, there is no shortage of beer around. There are not many places you will have a selection like this.

4. Coffee

We take our coffee seriously in Portland, and with good reason. Several months of the year it is cold and dreary and coffee is the perfect pick-me-up. Whether you love Stumptown or any of the other great roasters and shops around town, you are not going to find many places that take coffee culture as seriously as Portland.

5. Brunch

Brunch is the most important part of the weekend in Portland. Tasty n Sons, Tin Shed, Jam on Hawthorne, and Mother's Bistro & Bar are all great spots, but there are so many more to explore that it would be shameful to have just one favorite brunch spot.

6. Pho

If you have spent any time in east Portland, you undoubtedly have tried some of the popular pho spots up and down 82nd and the surrounding areas. Pho Vietnam, Pho Van, Pho An, Ha VL, and Pho Oregon all serve up amazing bowls of this rich Vietnamese noodle soup that can't be beat.

7. Ike's Fish Sauce Wings

Once you have had Pok Pok's signature fish sauce wings (spicy is best!), its hard to think about wings the same again. Thankfully, Andy Ricker put out a cookbook a few years ago, so you can actually make these at home no matter where you end up.

8. Bunk's Pork Cubano

If you are going to be gone from Portland for awhile, grab one of these delectable sandwiches on the way out to savor the flavor on your journey. Bunk's makes one amazing sandwich, and you will be happy to bring this taste of Portland with you.

9. Food Carts

Yeah, it's broad, but really, the food carts are part of the allure of eating in Portland. You can find something for everyone at our food cart pods sprinkled around town. If I ever leave, this is one thing about Portland food culture that I will miss the most.
