Don’t Pass By This Unassuming Neighborhood Market Housed In A North Dakota Gas Station Without Stopping
Hidden away in a Bismarck, North Dakota, gas station is a little marketplace restaurant that's such a delight, it's worth visiting all on its own. Sure, get gas while you're here - but first, come for the food! I think my favorite hidden gem restaurant in North Dakota is in a gas station... not that my list of gas station-bests is terribly long, anyway. Head up to the Landers' Shell and Northside Market ASAP, and grab you some fresh soup, salads, sandwiches, and more.
Truly, from the outside, it's just a gas station.
But the locals know better. It's so much more than jUsT a gas station.
Go inside and find out: First, you'll notice that it smells amazing.
Then, you'll notice that between the cool merch and the souvenirs, there's a menu... and a goodness-gracious great one at that.
From house-made soups, sandwiches and salads to baked goodies, to-go delights, and more, you'll find something to scratch any hungry itch.
The staff is always happy to help, and it's a great place to stop on a long journey... or to journey to itself!
Perhaps the best part - other than fresh food, of course - is the stuff you get to take home with you!
Honestly, I love that I can come here for lunch, grab a delicious sandwich, pick up a few fun things from the shop, and then take dessert with me. Never mind that dessert is every single pie they had... mind your business.
But seriously, Northside Market is incredibly unassuming and very easily overlooked.
But the fact that it's been going strong for as long as it has - family owned and operated since the 1960s - is a testament to its quality.
Folks will, of course, want to check out the rest of the shop and station while they're here.
You'll also find fishing tackle, bait, equipment, and more along with t-shirts, candy, and other goodies.
Lander's Shell might not look like anything super special from the exterior...
...but on the inside, it's as uniquely small-town Dakota as you can get (plus the soup's amazing).
