Open Since 1946, Owens’ Restaurant Is The Oldest Restaurant In North Carolina In The Same Family At The Same Location Since It Opened

Headed to the coast this spring or summer? A visit to Nags Head without dining at Owens' Restaurant just wouldn't be complete. Although North Carolina is home to many long-standing eating establishments, the oldest restaurant that's still in the same family and still in its original Nags Head location is still going strong.

Long a popular tourist destination in Dare County, the town of Nags Head didn't become a town until 15 years after Owens' Restaurant opened in 1946.

In fact, when the Owens family moved from Roanoke Island to Nags Head in 1946, the spot wasn't even popular among tourists yet. One of the family's proudest achievements is serving the community from the same location for nearly 75 years.

Step inside to be greeted by a warm and welcoming dining area on the first floor.

You won't find a more casual, yet decadent, place to dine in such a historic spot.

The decor, alone, is worth a visit — but you'll want to stay for the delicious food as well.

The walls are lined with memorabilia from the Owens family and the many years the restaurant has been open. There are so many artifacts that you'll be distracted in the best way possible if there's any wait at all for a table.

If you want a more intimate dining experience, then head upstairs to the Station Keepers Lounge.

It's filled with cozy seating (tables, of course) and usually features a full menu of seafood and steaks.

Both dining rooms are open for dinner during the season (closed for the winter) serving only the freshest seafood and prime cuts of steak.

The menu also includes a variety of soups and salads as well as fish and shellfish specialties, pastas, and steaks and prime rib. For the kiddos, a children's menu has a multitude of options to please just about everyone.

Nightly specials round out the list of available, hearty meals that are sure to win you over and leave you feeling full and satisfied.

If you want to visit, be sure to make it during the season, when Owens' is open. Once open for the season, it usually remains open through New Year's Eve.
