Britt's Donut Shop in North Carolina has locals going wild for the homemade glazed donuts made right there on the boardwalk of Carolina Beach. You won't mind waiting in line too at this iconic, cash-only establishment that has been around for over 80 years. And it's not just the locals who know about this place as it has graced the pages of such national publications as National Geographic Traveler, Food & Wine Magazine, and MSN City Guides as the second-best doughnut in the nation. One might argue that Britt's is why people visit Carolina Beach: you be the judge.
Britt’s was originally located on the opposite side of the boardwalk, and it was moved in 1969 to its current location.
This line happened one morning just 15 minutes after opening. People will wait their turn because the mouth-watering reward waiting for them at the end is all worth the effort.
The employees work hard and fast to get the orders out.
It is impressive to see the diligent work that goes into putting these fine treats out. They have had a long time to hone their skills and create the best donuts in town since they have been open for over 80 years. This little donut shop all started with a humble husband and wife duo. Mr. and Mrs. Niven opened up the shop in 1939 and operated it for over 40 years. This couple's hard work is what made this iconic sweet spot a must while visiting the Carolina Beach area.
The donuts are freshly cooked and glazed right here in the shop.
Since the demand is high you will see alot of these delicious treats being warmed, glazed, and delivered to hungry customers.
And the best part is they are placed in a white paper bag, all hot and greasy and sugary.
If this photo could emit smells, you would drive there right now. We're just having a hard enough time not drooling while looking at this picture.
While they are great hot, and trust us when we say they are great. It can also be a real treat to save one to enjoy at the beach.
And believe us when we say you will be back the next day. Then the next, and maybe even the day after that if you are staying in the area long enough.
Britt's is open seasonally usually closing sometime around late September and reopening in April this year.
