Everyone has their own taste when it comes to food, but one dairy product that we all seem to have a sweet spot for is cheese. Sliced on a plate or melted in a bowl, no matter how cheese is served to us, we just can't help but devour it all. The perfect place to go and warm up in while the weather begins to get colder, this one cozy restaurant down in the Catskills is every cheese lover's paradise.
One of the many colorful buildings that you'll find lining Main Street, New York's Painted Village in the Sky is home to Last Chance Antiques & Cheese Cafe.
No, it's not an illusion, there are actually pictures of cheese painted on the outside of this cheese-themed restaurant! To those who have yet to visit the small town of Tannersville, it's earned the nickname in New York as being our Painted Village in the Sky. The town has a Paint Program put together by locals that have given the majority of the buildings and businesses lining Main Street a completely funky makeover. Buildings that were once generic looking now have been given a more specific personality using eye-catching colors and quirky details that highlight what's inside. A favorite place to visit in the town of Tannersville since the 1970s, not too much has changed about the store since it originally opened!
The store first opened on Main Street primarily as an antique shop back in 1971, but it wouldn't be until 1977 that things would all fall into place. That year the building suffered a fire, allowing the owner to have a fresh start and transform the building into half a gourmet shop and half of a restaurant!
Today when you step inside Last Chance, you'll be able to shop around the gourmet store that specializes in carrying an endless amount of cheeses.
Carrying tons of local products and goods, this classic store generally has more than a hundred different kinds of cheeses available for you to sort through. The store also carries other popular goods like coffees and teas and even has a variety of old-fashioned candies and fudge that will further induce your hunger while you're here.
Also in stock here? Hundreds of different choices in bottled beer that will make your head spin in the best way possible.
Lining the walls of the store you'll find refrigerators stocked with an enormous variety of bottled beers, many of which are local delights!
But like we said, this shop specializes in cheeses and the same goes for their restaurant!
Pictured above you can see one of the most popular items on Last Chance's menu, their French Onion Soup that's topped with beautifully melted Swiss cheese.
Right on the menu, you'll find sections dedicated strictly to their glorious cheese options, like their Mac and Cheese that will make you feel at home.
Or you can go the classic route and pick one of their amazing cheese platters, where you'll be served various cheeses, fruit, and crackers.
But one of the menu items that's been a favorite since the 1970s is the Last Chance Cheese Fondue! This classic Swiss cheese is great to share with a friend.
So, are you ready to see what this cheesy restaurant is all about?
