New Mexico Is Home To 6 Of The Best Native American Restaurants

Discover six restaurants in New Mexico where you can sample Native American foods.

Does this chilly weather have you hoping for some warm, hearty meals? If you want to try something a little beyond your ordinary comfort food, then give some Native American food a try. Here are six restaurants in New Mexico where you can sample Native foods.

1. Ashkii's Navajo Grill (Farmington)

Located in downtown Farmington, this cafe serves simple yet hearty foods you'll find served in any Navajo household. We're fans of the steamcorn stew, but if you're feeling particularly hungry, try the Grandma's Favorite combo.

2. Cheii's Restaurant (Church Rock)

Located inside the Fire Rock Casino in Church Rock, Cheii's Restaurant features a menu of sandwiches, burgers, and salads. But if you flip to the meals under "Cheii's Shade House," you'll find a list of Navajo meals you can enjoy, such as lamb stew and a Navajo taco.

3. Grandma's Frybread Shack (Teec Nos Pos)

Editor's note: This restaurant is temporarily closed.

For most Native people, finding food that reminds us of home means stopping by Grandma's house or a roadside food truck. This particular little stop by the Four Corners Monument combines the two and the menu includes food easy to eat on the road or during a pit stop.

4. Indian Pueblo Kitchen (Albuquerque)

Formerly known as Pueblo Harvest, Indian Pueblo Kitchen was founded in 1976 and features delicious, Pueblo-inspired meals for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. We recommend opting for a bowl of stew and tortillas (pictured is the feast day stew).

5. Tiwa Kitchen Restaurant (Taos)

A restaurant and bakery in one, Tiwa Kitchen has a great menu of handmade traditional and Pueblo-inspired foods. The twah chull combo is a tasty example of their menu, featuring a plate of buffalo meat, squash, corn, beans, and wild rice.
