As one of the most diverse states in this country, it's no surprise that New Jersey offers some incredible ethnic cuisine. Newark has amazing Portuguese restaurants and you'll find fantastic Chinese food in Fort Lee, for starters. In this post, I'll be focusing on the best places in New Jersey to get authentic, appetizing Mexican meals. Here are some top picks, in no particular order:
1. Chili Willie's, Boonton
First opened in 1988, Chef/Owner Jose uses recipes passed down from his grandmother and only the freshest of ingredients. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but the churros come highly recommended.
2. Tacos el Tio, Egg Harbor Township
Guests will enjoy the vast and varied menu with favorites including carne tampiquena and ranchero chicken.
3. Casa Maya, High Bridge/Gillette
Inside Jersey Magazine voted Casa Maya the best Mexican Restaurant in New Jersey and it's easy to see why. The decor is fun and the food is fantastic. The food is served Sonoran-style with subtle spices.
4. Aztec Mexican, Chester
Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, serving authentic Mexican dishes and a selection of American favorites.
5. El Coyote Southwest Grill, Egg Harbor Township/Galloway
You'll find authentic Mexican dishes alongside twists on American favorites like tequila lime wings.
6. Charrito's, Weehawken/Hoboken
Great views, great atmosphere, and great food! The cuisine is mostly inspired by local favorites in Oaxaca, where the owners are originally from.
7. La Bamba, Manahawkin/Brant Beach
Best selling dishes at this BYOB spot include enchiladas, chiles poblanos rollenos, and paella.
8. Azteca, Toms River
This Mexican restaurant is also a bakery, so the desserts are delicious. The Candy Bar Explosion cake is a favorite.

This local favorite has been in business for 15 years. The owners are originally from Mexico City and offer authentic, flavorful dishes.
12. The Taco Truck, Morristown/Princeton/Hoboken
This traveling truck now has 3 brick and mortar locations. The tacos and tortas are terrific and definitely can not be missed.
13. The Tortilla Press, Pennsauken/Collingswood
