Located in Red Lodge, the Rock Creek Resort is a relaxing retreat where many Montanans choose to spend a weekend or host a wedding or other special event. It also happens to be the place to go for some seriously amazing elk tenderloin, served at restaurant that dates back to the 1940s.
Rock Creek Resort is located at 6380 US Highway 212 South in Red Lodge.
The resort is owned by a couple from Austria. They came to Red Lodge in the 1960s and (understandably) fell in love with it.
When the couple purchased the resort, the Old Piney Dell was already there.
The building has quite a history. It was originally a homesteader's cabin in the 1920s, then it was used as a community and cultural center for music and dance in the 30s by local ethnic groups. It made its restaurant debut in the 40s, and the rest is history.
The ambiance here is rustic, cozy, and charming.
No wonder locals have enjoyed dining here for so many decades.
Dinner is served Tuesday-Saturday here from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m.
The menu consists mainly of American classics like steaks, seafood, and pasta, all of which is tasty...
... but the Elk Tenderloin is absolutely phenomenal.
The 6 oz. tenderloin is served with a huckleberry port demi-glace and topped with fried carrots.
Whether you get the mouthwatering elk tenderloin or another entree, you'll definitely want to save room for dessert.
The Huckleberry Creme Brule is to die for, and the OPD Hot Fudge Sundae is big enough for two.
The next time you find yourself near Red Lodge, stop in for a meal at this timeless treasure.
The Executive Chef, Barrie, never disappoints.
Have you ever eaten at Old Piney Dell? Montana is full of unique and unforgettable restaurants.
