Enjoy A Truly Unique Dining Experience At Boxcar Bistro In Montana

Boxcar Bistro in Missoula’s Old Sawmill District offers a unique dining experience with a blend of French cuisine and Montana influences.

Once upon a time, trains used to run through Missoula's Old Sawmill District. Back then, the lumber mills were a huge part of Missoula's economy, causing its growth and expansion. It's hard to believe it, but this part of the city was once a lumberyard.

Recently, a shiny new restaurant opened that pays homage to Missoula's past while celebrating all that it has to offer today. If you have yet to experience the Boxcar Bistro, allow us to introduce you.

Boxcar Bistro is located at 875 Wyoming Street, where it just opened its doors in early May of 2021.

This little eatery is already making a big impression on the locals.

Step inside and you'll instantly be transported back to the Roaring 20s (the original Roaring 20s, that is).

This place has a definite speakeasy vibe.

As you can tell, this is not a traditional boxcar restaurant, although it definitely has a refined dining car feel.

The bistro was named in honor of Missoula's railroad-heavy past.

The Old Sawmill District has traditionally been a pedestrian-friendly neighborhood, with places for people to live, work, and grab a coffee.

The neighborhood has been in need of a quality dinner option like this for quite some time.

While this is a French bistro, you'll notice a distinct Montana influence when you look at the menu.

Executive Chef Jess Wrightson always makes sure there's plenty of Montana-grown or raised items on the menu, which rotates seasonally.

From Duck Confit to Moules Frites, you'll find plenty of fancy French cuisine here -- but if you prefer a more casual meal, you'll be able to have that as well.

The steak frites are to die for, and the Boxcar Burger is always a safe bet.

When you're offered dessert, don't turn it down. Trust us.

This is a flourless chocolate torte with fresh berries - and it's magnificent.

Boxcar Bistro is open Tuesday - Saturday from 4 p.m. - 9 p.m. for dinner.

Reservations, which can easily be made online, are recommended.
