There are quite a few places in Montana that can be referred to as the state's "best-kept secret." That's because when compared to the rest of the country, a lot of Montana feels like a big fat secret overall. While we'd love to keep it that way, it's hard to avoid extolling the greatness of some of the state's fantastic restaurants, bars, shops, and hotels. And, of course, we love supporting them. While those in White Sulphur Springs already know this secret, there's a good chance the best BBQ in Montana can be found in town right on E. Main Street.
If you don't spend time in White Sulphur Springs, you might not know that Jesse Pepper’s Smoke Shack even exists. But, it's not only one of the best restaurants in town, it might just be the best BBQ in Montana. Although, there's so much more than just BBQ here.
The inside offers a mix of rustic and contemporary decor, allowing for lots of light without compromising the cozy quality.
The vibe is great, but it's the menu that has us going back. The meals are huge and the sandwiches are some of the best we've ever had. The Brisket Sandwich and the Pulled Pork Sandwich are favorites.
And the St. Louis Style Ribs leave absolutely nothing to be desired.
One of the things we love best about Jesse Pepper’s Smoke Shack is that they offer a solid Tex-Mex menu. Their enchiladas are perfect.
Of course, they've also got a few things on the lighter side.
The Bao Buns are also fantastic and totally unexpected.
Each day they offer specials from soups to entrees.
And anyone with a sweet tooth will want to be sure they don't get too frisky with the menu. You absolutely do not want to risk being too full for dessert!
Jesse Pepper’s Smoke Shack is open year round, throughout the week. To start planning your visit and see more photos, be sure to follow Jesse Pepper’s Smoke Shack on Facebook. They can be reached at 406-547-2427.
After you've tried the best BBQ in Montana, don't you dare leave the area! Stick around and check out White Sulphur Springs, which is especially lovely in the winter. You might want to consider a long weekend by booking a nearby vacation rental, too.
