13 Pieces Of Advice For Anyone Fixin’ To Move To Mississippi
Living in the Magnolia State is an experience all its own. We Mississippians have our own way of doing things – from the way we speak to the foods we eat. Anyone moving to our great state would have a lot of catching up to do – and we think this list would certainly give them the upper hand. Take a look:
1. First off, learn what “fixin’ to” means.
2. Bacon grease is NOT garbage – save it!
3. The same goes for Cool Whip and Country Crock containers, which double as Tupperware.
4. You’ll hear the phrase, “It’s not the heat, it’s the humidity,” a lot, so get used to it.
5. “If you think this is hot wait until August,” is another phrase that will be heard often.
6. The good news is that it’ll cool down…in December…maybe.
7. Car trouble got you stuck on the side of the road? Don’t fret. Help, which usually comes in the form of a friendly native in a pick-up complete with a tow chain, jumper cables, and other handy goodies, will be along shortly.
8. Ranch is readily available and makes EVERYTHING taste better.
9. Pulling over for funeral processions isn’t an option – it’s a must.
10. If you don’t have anything nice to say…say “bless your heart.”
11. Don’t like the weather? Don’t worry; it’ll change in 15 minutes.
12. Forget what you’ve been taught; there are six seasons: winter, spring, summer, fall, hurricane season, and deer season.
13. BBQ is so much more than grilling up burgers and hot dogs. It’s basically an entire food group – one that’s taken very seriously.
