The Gallows Bar is hidden in the basement of the Wierhouse, a century-old building right on the square in Brandon.

Estimated to be the oldest building in Rankin County, the historic structure dates back to the 1800s and has served as everything from a jail to a hardware store.

And though it’s been beautifully restored, the building still retains many of its original features, such as hardwood floors, exposed brick walls, and high ceilings.

In 2018, the building began its new life as the Wierhouse, which, in addition to The Gallows Bar, houses loft apartments, a bakery, and restaurant, Genna Benna’s.

The Gallows Bar is actually an extension of Genna Benna’s and occupies the basement beneath the restaurant.

Between the obscure locale, dimly lit setting, comfy seating, and stocked bar, it’s just like the speakeasies of yesteryear.

The beverage selection is sure to be a bit more extensive than those found at the speakeasies of yesteryear, though.

In addition to craft beer and wine, The Gallows Bar doles out creative, prohibition-style cocktails, tiki drinks, and tapas, only adding to the reasons it's worthy of being deemed one of the best bars in Mississippi.
