Mississippi is no stranger to spooky spots and haunted sites. There are countless legends and tales regarding restless spirits, who have taken up residence in various locales throughout the state. One such place is Ole Tavern on George Street. In addition to being known for its unique culinary flair and active nightlife, the tavern has a reputation as a paranormal hot spot. Take a look:
Ole Tavern on George Street is located in Jackson, just steps from the Mississippi State Capitol.
The tavern opened in 2008; however, the building that houses the tavern has a history that goes back much further – it was built in 1910!
In the years following its construction, the brick building served a variety of purposes - from a grocery store to a brothel.
For over a decade now, it’s been a go-to spot for those seeking a tasty meal and late-night fun – but those aren’t the only things it’s known for.
Over the years, the tavern has garnered a reputation as a paranormal hot spot.
The inexplicable occurrences run the gamut and include everything from lights coming on by themselves to a phantom patron at the bar.
Strange noises and disembodied voices have also been reported.
One employee, in particular, reported hearing the chairs and tables being moved on their own, while a paranormal investigator captured an EVP of the word "ghost" being repeated over and over again.
The supernatural happenings at Ole Tavern are attributed to two ghosts.
One spirit is believed to belong to a prostitute, who worked in the building when it was a brothel. According to legend, the prostitute was jilted by a customer and either committed suicide or was murdered. The other ghost is said to be that of a man, who once owned the building. As the story goes, the man and his brother got into an argument that resulted in one fatally shooting the other. The bullet casings from the shooting were actually pulled from the stairs in recent years.
