Jack’s By The Tracks Is One Of Mississippi’s Most Unique Restaurants
Jack’s by the Tracks in Pascagoula offers a unique combination of sushi, tacos, and po’boys.
Normally, the type of cuisine a restaurant serves is pretty easy to determine. However, that’s not the case with Jack’s by the Tracks. This Pascagoula restaurant is the result of its owner, Mark Garrison, combining his passion for bars, great music, sushi, and Southern cuisine. This restaurant offers a unique fare of sushi, tacos, and po’boys, putting Jack’s by the Tracks in a category of its own. To learn all about Jack’s by the Tracks in Mississippi, take a look below.
From the outside, Jack’s by the Tracks appears to be a shotgun house because that was what the building originally started off as. In 1924, the house was transformed into a jewelry store. In the years that followed, the building served as a florist, hardware store, furniture store, and paint store before it became Jack’s by the Tracks in 2011.
Even though a large main dining room has been added to the back, the building has retained much of its original architectural style. Step inside the old shotgun house and you’ll find a bar down the left side, a few tables on the right, and a stage in the front for live music.
Take one look at the "southern sushi juke joint fish taqueria neighborhood pub deli’s" menu and you’ll quickly realize that Jack’s by the Tracks is not your usual restaurant. In fact, it's probably the only place you’ll find that specializes in sushi, tacos, and po’ boys.
The "southern influenced Mississippi-style sushi" includes both raw and cooked options, which, depending on the type of roll, could be fried, sautéed, steamed, seared, or griddled on a flattop.
The sushi’s unique flavor is partly due to some not-so-standard ingredients such as heart of palm, bacon, and prosciutto. Spicy, made-from-scratch sauces and toppings such as tobiko, crunchy fish flakes, bacon crumbles, and sesame seeds also add a unique flavor to the sushi at Jack’s.
The menu is full of signature sushi creations, including the Jackimo. One of the restaurant’s best sellers, the Jackimo, includes fried shrimp that's combined with sautéed crawfish, tobiko, green onion, and cheese.
Another popular roll is the Big Bayou, which includes crawfish with cream cheese that is deep fried and then rolled in spicy mayo and tobiko or fish roe.
There are also plenty of po’ boys and tacos on the menu. And just like the sushi, they feature a bit of a twist. While traditional roast beef and shrimp po’ boys are on the menu, you’ll have the option of having the bread turned inside out and cooked on a griddle like a panini.
Fresh local shrimp and a Korean-flavored take on the southern staple, barbecue pork shoulder, fill the tacos at Jack’s by the Tracks, resulting in a delicious creation unlike anything you’ve ever tasted. Guaranteed!
