Of all the states in the country, not a single one owns the idea of lobster quite like Maine! From north to south, east to even west, this state is known for this crazy crustacean. And, of course, we wouldn't have it any other way! It means that we can find any number of lobster dishes just about anywhere we travel. And that's a-okay with us! If you're on the quest for great lobster in the perfect Maine setting, you're going to want to take a trip to this spot. The food is great and the setting couldn't get any more "Maine" if it tried!
Welcome to the Lobster Shack at Two Lights in Cape Elizabeth. Located at the end of a long and windy coastal road, this place is truly special.
Of course, if it’s been in business for 51 seasons, you know it’s got to be good!
It was founded by Ruth G. Leadbetter and her husband James W in 1969, but today their grandson and his wife Jeff and Katie Porch are at the helm. That makes this the third generation to run things here!
The Leadbetters purchased the business from two women who were selling lobster meat. But the business of lobster has been going strong here in one way or another since the 1920s!
The Lobster Shack has evolved over the years, but one thing that hasn’t changed is the freshness found in each and every dish. Of course, with a menu full of things caught here in Maine it has to be fresh.
We love how rustic things are here, but the size indicates anything but a shack. Inside you’ll find seating for 50 people. And the decor is about as Maine as it gets.
And while we love the ambiance of the inside, we always hope for nice weather days when we visit so we can sit outside. The picnic tables here overlook the water and there’s plenty of room to spread out.
On a beautiful day expect things to feel busy. The Lobster Shack serves nearly 1,500 people on a busy day in the summer.
While the food here is simple, you’ll definitely taste what makes it so special. And we love the way everything is served just how you’d expect at a seafood restaurant on the coast.
The lobster rolls here can’t be beat and they’re all classically Maine.
We also love the fried seafood dishes.
But, before you fill up on fried seafood and lobster rolls remember that you’ll want to save room for dessert. Their blueberry pie is incredible!
Enjoy the perfect portions while looking out over the water for the ultimate Maine dining experience.
The Lobster Shack at Two Lights is typically open every day from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. You can learn more about the menu and their history by visiting their website. And to keep up with changes in service and schedule, follow them on Facebook. They can be reached on 207-799-1677.
And for those truly dedicated to the quest for the perfect lobster roll, there's nothing better than this mouthwatering lobster roll trail in Maine!
