Throughout spring, summer, and fall, one of the best things to do in Kentucky is visit a local farm. They are the backbone of our state and many have been around for generations. In more recent years, some farms have opened their gates to welcome in the public for a farmers market, activities, education, festivals, and more. In Bowling Green, one of the best family farms to visit is Jackson's Orchard. They offer delicious produce and fun activities all season long and the treats and cider slushies from this charming Kentucky orchard are ridiculously refreshing.
Jackson's Orchard in Bowling Green has been serving the community for over 50 years.
Generations of locals have wonderful memories of visiting this big red barn and getting a taste of farm life in Kentucky.
Today, the Jackson family continues the tradition on their lovely property as they open their barn doors to the public from mid-April through mid-November.
The Apple Barn is open Monday - Saturday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and sells the freshest produce, along with other items. The concession stand, which offers unique treats, typically opens for the season around the 4th of July.
Anytime is a great time to visit this Kentucky orchard, but fall on the farm is particularly charming.
The farm is open extended hours and offers extra activities. These Pumpkin Festival weekends are a local favorite and you can read all about them here.
During these late September and October weekends, visit the farm for plenty of seasonal fun.
Take a hayride to the pumpkin patch, try out the corn maze, play games, enjoy the playground, and more.
This is also pick-your-own apples season, which means you can head into the orchard to fill a bag to take home with you.
Jackson's Orchard also offers the apples already picked and ready to go in the Apple Barn, as well as fresh apple cider, and their concession stand which you absolutely must visit.
From the concession stand, pick up a few delicious treats that you can't find anywhere else.
The Apple Slushies are absolutely refreshing, especially on those warm, late summer and early fall days. You can also tried apple and peach fried pies, homemade ice cream, apple BBQ sandwiches, and much more.
Stop by anytime during the orchard's open hours to pick up the freshest produce.
Jackson's is also known for its peaches, which taste like sweet summer with each bite. While you're browsing the produce, bring the kids along to play on the playground. This area is open during the barn's open hours and it's just $2/child to play all day ($3 during pumpkin festivals when there are more activities).
The rest of the Apple Barn is filled with more fresh from the farm foods to take home and enjoy.
